Amplé Barolo 2021

Winery: Cozzo Mario

Price: €29.00

Barolo is a delicious red wine from the town of the same name.

Barolo is made from 100% Nebbiolo, a demanding grape variety that is said to be named after Piedmont’s famous fog (or “nebbia” in Italian). Nebbiolo requires specific soil conditions and slopes above that fog to fully ripen.

Barolo must age for at least 3 years before it is released (5 years for Riserva wines) and, thanks to its high acidity and firm tannins, can be cellared for a long time. Pair a bottle of well-aged Barolo (even one over 20 years old) with dishes from Piedmont (how about truffle risotto?) for a truly special experience. (source: Vivino)

Suri Mesdi Langhe Nebbiolo 2022

Winery: Cozzo Mario

Price: €9.50.

Nebbiolo, grown primarily in northwestern Italy, is responsible for some of the most complex, “age-worthy,” and sought-after red wines in the world, the best-known examples being Barolo and Barbaresco, both produced in the Langhe hills of Piedmont.

Characterized by its high acidity, firm tannins, and aromas of roses, tar, red cherries, and dried herbs, Nebbiolo is a grape that rewards patience and attention more than almost any other variety.

The color is an intense ruby red with garnet-colored highlights. On the nose, it offers strong aromas of black cherries, sour cherries, and cherries preserved in alcohol. On the palate, it is warm and harmonious, with excellent persistence of ripe fruit. Recommended pairings include braised, roasted, or grilled main courses and semi-hard cheeses.

Serae Barbera d’Alba Superiore 2022

Winery: Cozzo Mario

Price: €9.50

Barbera is the hardy primary grape variety of the famous Piedmont region in northern Italy. The grape accounts for about 55% of the region's wine production.

Barbera is a hardy, undemanding grape variety that adapts easily to different regions. The wine typically has a deep ruby-red color with low tannins and a refreshing, high acidity.

Barbera has a relatively long ripening period on the vine, which gives the wine many rich, intense flavors.

Barbera d'Asti is the best-known DOCG where this grape is grown. This is a warm, hilly region in Piedmont.

Because Barbera is known for its acidity, it is recommended to pair this wine with rich, full-bodied dishes and dark meats. (source: Vivino)
